Scarlett is a nonbinary, trans youth who is adamant about taking their PrEP medication and is interested in knowing the different options to take PrEP. They find it important to have a set schedule, as they do with many other aspects of their life, to promote a healthy routine of staying on top of one’s health.

Interviewer: Hey Scarlett! Thanks for coming in for this interview! I wanted to talk with you a little bit about PrEP. So, you told me a while ago that you are taking PrEP?

Scarlett:  Yes, I’ve been on PrEP for almost two years now.

Interviewer: Ok, great! So, do you take it consistently, like every day? Have you missed any doses?

Scarlett: No. I take my PrEP meds regularly, and have for the past two years since I started.

Interviewer: that’s awesome! And you take the pill, correct?

Scarlett: That is correct

Interviewer: Ok cool. So how do you stay consistent with it?

Scarlett: For me, It’s like…having a set schedule. Setting a designated time after I eat to take my meds, making it a constant habit and routine so that you stay on top of your health.

Interviewer: Ok. Have you ever thought about the other PrEP treatments? Like Apretude? It’s an injectable option for PrEP treatment

Scarlett: I thought about it when it was first presented to me, but I am not particularly a fan of needles, so, given the other medications I take, taking a pill is just easier for me.

Interviewer:  Ok, and what time do you take your meds?

Scarlett: It depends on when I wake up. So, either early in the morning, or in the early afternoon.

Interviewer: Was there ever a time where you didn’t feel safe to take your PrEP?

Scarlett: No. My doctor and I worked out a consistent treatment plan, and I make sure I follow my doctor’s instructions, including getting tested every three months to make sure everything is working correctly. So, no it’s not an issue for me at all.

Interviewer: Ok that’s great! So, you make sure that you make all your appointments?

Scarlett: Yes, and even if I do have to miss an appointment, I have adequate amounts of dosages that I receive in the mail to make sure I don’t miss a dose.

Interviewer: Ok Scarlett, thanks so much. That’s all I have for today. Keep up the good work!

Scarlett: Thanks!
