Job Summary:
The Communications Associate works closely with The Attic’s Director of Development and Executive Director on all areas of fundraising with primary responsibility for marketing, communications and promoting a unified brand for The Attic across multiple marketing campaigns, platforms, and channels. Responsibilities include coordinating all communications and marketing including email marketing; social media posting, outreach, and engagement, as well as design, management, and updates for the website. Collaborate with Director of Development and Development Associate to design, plan and schedule solicitation/cultivation mailings & online campaigns (Giving Tuesday, annual end of year appeal, etc.) The position provides a great opportunity to work on all aspects of fundraising and marketing for a growing nonprofit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create social media and marketing plans in collaboration with DD to align with fundraising strategies.
- Manage communications and social media calendar to market/highlight The Attic’s mission and work.
- Design/develop content for, and manage implementation of, e- newsletters, e-mail campaigns/e-blasts, social media, website content, and annual appeals.
- Consistently update and improve organization’s website to increase program participation and donor engagement.
- Draft & design content for donor appeals/communications/acknowledgement letters as well as provide content for donor/annual reports in collaboration with DD & development staff.
- Organize/create systems and maintain Media and Communications library of archival and current press, articles, interviews, marketing materials, photos, media, video, etc. for use in social media and on website.
- Compile/create/prepare folders and marketing materials for Development prospect meetings as well as public relations & other events.
- Assist with coordination of in-kind donations
- Assist in planning and executing fundraising events.
- Provide support for other activities and projects related to fundraising and marketing as needed.
Qualifications:
- Passionate about The Attic’s mission to create opportunities for LGBTQ youth.
- Dedicated commitment to youth development and social justice.
- Must have two or more years of full-time, paid experience working in communications/marketing at a nonprofit organization.
- Strong design/web/social media skills.
- Excellent writing and design ability. Please include a writing sample of a grant, newsletter, or appeal letter. Familiarity with regional and local funders a plus.
- Outstanding organizational skills and initiative. Rigorous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and judgement with the ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of development/donor records.

- Able to regularly work on-site 5 days per week; with 1-2 days work from home/remote schedule negotiable after successful completion of 90-day introductory period.
- The employee is often required to sit for an hour or longer, stand, balance, walk, climb one (1) flight of stairs. Sometimes required to reach with arms and hands.
- The vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Often uses a computer, tablet, or other office technology such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
- Hearing abilities required by this job include the ability to navigate small and large group settings as well as one-on-one conversations.
- Able to move boxes and materials weighing up to 20 pounds in all directions.
- Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions, especially during Spring/Summer months.
