Job Summary:
Philadelphia Resources and Empowerment for Sexual Health (PhRESH) is a community-based program that seeks to increase HIV and STI testing, prevention, supplies, and access to resources such as medical care and Pre- and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP/PEP) for young MSM of color.  The PhRESH Coordinator is responsible for planning and delivering outreach efforts, including outreach to the Ballroom community and local Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSA’s).

The PhRESH Coordinator is responsible for engagement, outreach, service support and referrals using the CDC Community PROMISE intervention (training provided). This project is funded by CDC grant in collaboration with the Mazzoni Center.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and provide strategic outreach efforts to engage YMSM (young men who have sex with men) of color in the Philadelphia Area.
  • Convene youth focus groups to inform components of the outreach and promotion plan
  • Collaborate with Mazzoni Center staff who will be conducting biweekly on-site HIV testing at The Attic.
  • Assist and accompany youth to other PhRESH service sites for testing when necessary.
  • Assist identified youth in linkage to services in collaboration with Mazzoni’s Linkage Navigation Specialist.
  • Collaborate in the planning and execution of large-scale testing and outreach events, including but not limited to Pride weekends in June and October.
  • Support youth with internal and other jurisdiction HIV, STI, viral hepatitis, and/or TB programs, including the Philadelphia Health Department partner services.
  • Complete training in Community PROMISE, a risk reduction behavioral intervention in accordance with the CDC, to distribute risk reduction supplies and develop, maintain, and disseminate role model stories to YMSM of color who are either living with HIV or are at increased risk for acquiring HIV.
  • Implement social networking strategies to increase referrals to testing and services.
  • Assist supervisor in recruiting and training two YMSM of color as community advocates.
  • Engage with Gender and Sexuality Alliances in the Philadelphia area to promote The Attic and the PhRESH program
  • Attend all PhRESH community partner meetings

 General Responsibilities

  • Flexible schedule to work daytime, afternoon, evening, late night, and weekend hours required
  • Work with Clinical and Program Staff to identify and develop programming that addresses the needs of the youth.
  • Participate in staff meetings, department meetings and consultations, and supervisory meetings.
  • Participate in staff professional development as necessary and/or required.
  • Attend and participate in all Attic annual and special events
  • Follow and uphold all Attic Youth Center guidelines and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Record Keeping and Reporting

  • Protect client information and records at all times in compliance with HIPAA, Attic Confidentiality Policy and Pennsylvania Act 148.
  • Report critical incidents immediately to your supervisor and follow Attic policies and procedures regarding incident reporting.
  • Maintain client files to include notes regarding contacts and conversations with youth and collaborative persons or entities, progress towards goals and documentation of any incidents relative to youth navigating services, or which impacts the youth’s life.
  • Complete documentation and reports in a timely manner as per specific program service requirements and protocols.
  • Collect and input data in corresponding data bases on a consistent and timely basis as required

Teamwork and Collaboration:

  • Work in collaboration with program and all other agency staff to facilitate a team environment
  • Participate in the Attic huddle and staff meetings and commits to group decisions
  • Role model effective team behaviors
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in building relationships with all employees and Attic youth.
  • Create good working relationships with area service providers and support programs to facilitate the access to area resources for Attic youth
  • Create good working relationships with staff at The Attic and Mazzoni to facilitate access to resources, and to support youth in identifying and navigating services and referrals.
  • Substitute for other staff when need arises


  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience working with/in the YMSM of color communities required
  • Strong understanding of the YMSM of color communities of Philadelphia required
  • Ability to professionally collaborate with other agencies and organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required for this position. The person in the position must be able to communicate effectively with clients, staff, and other organizations; and contribute to a positive environment.
  • Working knowledge of evidence-based HIV and STI prevention strategies
  • Flexible schedule to work daytime, afternoon, evening, late night, and weekend hours required
  • Able to independently travel and work offsite, outside of center city Philadelphia during late and/or weekend hours with minimum supervision
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Windows and Microsoft Office preferred
  • Background checks are required, including Criminal Background Clearance, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Clearance.

Physical Requirements:

  • The ability to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time
  • The ability to lift objects greater than 35 pounds
  • The ability to communicate using written and spoken words

Must demonstrate visual and auditory acuity
